Australian churches have built youth ministry as a job you do on the way to something else. It was built that way, and it can be rebuilt.

Only three per cent of Australian churches have a full-time youth minister, and 81 per cent have none at all. A church that wants one usually cannot afford more than a few hours a week, and the people who are good at the work leave it for something that pays a wage.
A gift to Youth Ministry Futures goes into a pool that trains theological students, sustains experienced youth ministers, and places them in churches that could not otherwise employ them. God is the one who keeps a generation; he has long done it through people who stay.
